Historically, the College of Naturopaths of Ontario has seen relatively small numbers of allegations of sexual abuse of patients. Regardless, the legislation is clear and well-defined on what constitutes sexual abuse and what does not. This session will have an open and forthright discussion about sexual abuse and the rules set out in the legislation, your protection and your risks.

Presenters
Dr. Shelly Burns, ND
Dr. Shelley Burns, ND, is co-owner of Pomegranate Healthcare, a multi-disciplinary clinic in Toronto. With her extensive experience in providing health care for executives, she has worked alongside physicians consulting as a team and continues to work with executive clients to assist them in achieving peak health.
Dr. Burns, ND, completed the four-year program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, where she received the NaturoMedic Award for proficiency in Naturopathic Medicine. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Philosophy from Wilfred Laurier University, certification in Complementary and Integrative Medicine from the Harvard Medical School and a Master of Laws in Health Law from Osgoode Hall Law School. Dr. Burns, ND, is past chair of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors and currently sits on the Council for the College of Naturopaths of Ontario.
Dr. Burns, ND supervises at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic (RSNC). She was a columnist for the US publication, Skin Deep magazine, and has been quoted in Maclean’s magazine, The Toronto Star and The Medical Post. She has also appeared in interviews on CTV. Dr. Burns, ND, has addressed healthcare industry conferences in North America on Naturopathic Medicine and individualized preventive healthcare.
Andrew Parr, CEO
Andrew Parr is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the College of Naturopaths of Ontario, the regulatory authority governing naturopathic doctors in Ontario. He was first appointed to the College during its formative stages in August 2010 and, upon proclamation of the Naturopathy Act, 2007 in July 2015 was formally re-appointed by the new Council.
Prior to joining the College, Andrew had been working in the not-for-profit sector for 20 years, including eight of which he served as the Executive Director and CEO of the association for registered massage therapists in Ontario. Andrew has also served as the Executive Director of the Canadian Society of Association Executives-Trillium Chapter for ten years through a successful association management firm he had established.
Andrew has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in politics from Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario and has attained his Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the Canadian Society of Association Executives.
Outside of work, Andrew enjoys spending time at the lake with his husband of 30 years and his delightful pups, Chandler and Gunther.
About the Regulatory Education Program
The Regulatory Education Program provides Registrants as well as members of the public access to free virtual educational programming that is focused directly on key regulatory concepts and rules. It is intended to allow Registrants and the public to learn more about the regulatory framework which governs NDs in Ontario and to help NDs not only comply, but to avoid potential issues that present a risk of harm to the public.
