FAQ Telepractice: Providing Naturopathic Care at a Distance
Posted On: March 6, 2025
As a naturopathic doctor practicing in Ontario, you may receive requests for virtual care from patients outside the province. It’s important to understand the legal requirements for providing care to individuals in other jurisdictions, as these vary depending on local regulations. Here’s a Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) that we’ve receive that may be relevant to you when offering virtual care to patients outside Ontario.
“Am I allowed to provide virtual care to patients who live outside of Ontario? I am practising in Ontario right now but have had people reach out for services since they do not have a naturopath nearby.”
You may provide virtual care to someone not in Ontario only if you follow all applicable laws in the jurisdiction where the patient is located.
If the patient is in a jurisdiction that does not regulate naturopathy, you must continue to meet all applicable laws and standards of practice of Ontario and follow any law in the jurisdiction where the patient is located that may restrict you from providing care.
If the patient is in another regulated jurisdiction, you must be registered with the regulatory authority in that jurisdiction in order to provide virtual care.
