Professional Incorporation
The Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), 1991 and the Health Professions Procedural Code, which is Schedule 2 of the RHPA, along with Ontario Regulation 39/02 allow members of a regulated health profession to become incorporated under the Business Corporations Act (BCA). Naturopathic doctors are permitted to incorporate for the purpose of practising a health profession, provided they obtain a certificate of authorization from the College.
Applying for a Certificate of Authorization
To obtain a certificate of authorization, registrants must complete and submit the online application form along with the required supporting documents (as noted in the Professional Corporation Handbook). All applications for incorporation with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, or an authorized service provider, must be completed electronically to be approved as supporting documents. After the online application form is submitted to the College, the initial application fee will be available on the home page of your College account under ‘My Invoices’.
For additional information including answers to frequently asked questions, please review the Applying for a Certificate of Authorization for a Professional Corporation Handbook.
Note: The online application form is only available by logging into your College user account. Completion of the online application form by a 3rd party is not permissible. Step-by-step details on completing the online form are provided in the Handbook.
Renewing your Certificate of Authorization
The certificate of authorization expires one year after issuance. To maintain your certificate of authorization, you must annually file an application to renew it a minimum of 30-days prior to the certificate’s expiration date.
To renew your certificate of authorization, please review the Renewing a Certificate of Authorization for a Professional Corporation Handbook and complete the online renewal application form along with the required supporting documents (as noted in the PC Renewal Handbook).
Note: The online application forms for applying and renewing a PC are only available by logging into your College user account. As such, completion of these forms by a 3rd party on your behalf is not permissible. Step-by-step instructions for completing the online forms are provided in the above noted Handbooks.
Dissolving a Corporation
Registrants holding a Certificate of Authorization who no longer wish to practise through their Professional Corporation may seek to dissolve their corporation through the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services. The dissolution process typically takes anywhere from 30 to 90 days. If seeking to resign your certificate of registration to practise naturopathy in Ontario, your Professional Corporation must be dissolved before the resignation can be processed.
