The College of Naturopaths of Ontario regulates naturopathic doctors in the public interest. Our mandate is to support patients’ rights to receive safe, competent and ethical naturopathic care. We fulfill our role by establishing requirements to enter the profession, setting standards of practice, ensuring continuing competence, and providing accountability through Complaints and Discipline.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director, Operations, the Manager, Finance and Risk is responsible for managing and leading all matters relating to Finance, Information Technology, Enterprise Risk Management, Business Continuity and related program Committees.

Duties & Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for:

1. Finance

  • Managing all Accounts Payable and Receivable procedures including scheduled recurring bills and invoices, expense claims, payments related to agreements, etc.
  • Managing monthly reconciliation of bank, credit cards and HST accounts.
  • Preparing quarterly reports following standard accounting processes for financial analysis and reporting activities, including actuals against budget with initial variance and year-end projection analysis, balance sheets, statement of operations, cash flow analysis and the reclassifications and posting of journal entries.
  • Overseeing tax remittances and manages all College bank accounts and investments.
  • Facilitating the financial management of College activities including the preparation of an annual budget, annual audit and any other special audits or reviews that may occur from time to time.
  • Providing back-up support for all accounting functions including the approval of payroll in the absence of the Finance Coordinator or Manager, Human Resources.
  • Developing and driving improvements and efficiencies to optimize financial management for the organization; and
  • Developing and updating financial policies and procedures to reflect best practices in the not-for-profit sector.

2. Information Technology

  • Overseeing existing third-party vendor in the maintenance of College IT systems.
  • Developing, updating and implementing operational policies, procedures and guidelines; and
  • Managing the procurement of all IT equipment.

3. Enterprise Risk Management and Business Continuity

  • Managing the continued development and maintenance of the College’s Enterprise Risk Management program, including the development and updating of program policies and procedures.
  • Managing the progress of risk controls and preparation of reports for decision making purposes.
  • Conducting analysis of emerging issues and trends and escalating any significant changes to the Director, Operations.
  • Fostering a positive risk management culture within the organization.
  • Developing and delivering enterprise risk management training to staff and volunteers.
  • Participating in the development of the College’s Operational Plan to assist in the prioritization of objectives as related to risk.
  • Working collaboratively with stakeholders to remain current on best practices and industry trends.
  • Reviewing briefing notes to assist with the identification of relevant risks; and
  • Managing the development of a contingency plan to ensure the continuation of College operations.

4. Committee Support

  • Providing administrative and planning support to the Audit and Risk Committees; and
  • Providing support to Council as directed by the Director, Operations.

5. Management of Direct Reports

  • Managing direct reports by providing direction, supervision, support and feedback through priority setting processes, performance reviews, and the creation of development plans.

6. Other Duties

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform the duties successfully, the incumbent will have:

  • Education/Experience: A degree in business, finance, accounting or related field. Designation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP) or in the process of completion is an asset. Minimum of five years related experience and/or education; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members. Ability to write presentations and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Accuracy: Ability to pay attention to details and produce accurate and balanced financial statements and reports.
  • Accounting: Ability to apply accounting concepts such as revenues, expenses, assets, capital and liabilities.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must know word processing software, spreadsheet software, internet software, and contact management systems.

Terms and Working Conditions

The following terms and working conditions apply to this position:

  • This is a full-time permanent position with the College.
  • The position is based on a 35-hour work week, Monday to Friday.
  • The College offers a hybrid remote and in-office work schedule.
  • Salary will be based on the experience, skills and qualifications of the incumbent within a range of $79,344 – $108,948 per year.
