The College of Naturopaths of Ontario regulates naturopathic doctors in the public interest. Our mandate is to support patients’ rights to receive safe, competent and ethical naturopathic care. We fulfill our role by establishing requirements to enter the profession, setting standards of practice, ensuring continuing competence, and providing accountability through Complaints and Discipline.

Overall Responsibilities

The Manager, Human Resources is responsible for managing and collaborating with all levels of staff and volunteers to support operations in human resource practices and processes in the areas of recruitment, recognition, health and safety, labour relations, compensation, training, development and compliance.

Reports to:  Director of Operations

Specific Duties

1.     Strategic and Operational Activities

  • Supports and drives HR strategies and initiatives to align with Strategic and Operational plans.
  • Ensures legal compliance throughout human resource management.
  • Manages the full cycle of recruitment for staff and volunteer vacancies.
  • Prepares reports for and supports the activities of the Governance Committee.
  • Maintains a Human Resource plan to meet objectives including succession planning.
  • Develops and updates position descriptions as required.
  • Provides leadership and coaching to senior staff and volunteer chairs on human resource issues and policies.
  • Serves as an escalation process for complaints to facilitate a resolution between employees, management, and volunteers.
  • Oversees disciplinary meetings, investigations, terminations and offboarding including exit interviews.
  • Identifies and implements retention strategies to reduce staff and volunteer turnover.
  • Designs and executes employee and volunteer surveys on various topics including engagement and wellness.

 

2.     Education and Training Activities

  • Promotes and fosters a culture of ongoing learning and development through professional development planning.
  • Identifies training and development needs.
  • Manages the volunteer mentorship program.
  • Researches and coordinates resources to deliver training.
  • Facilitates onboarding program for new staff and volunteers.
  • Prepares education sessions on relevant policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the development of an annual training budget for staff and volunteers.
  • Manages annual training budget for staff and volunteers.

 

3.     Recognition Activities

  • Leads the development and execution of the employee and volunteer team building and recognition programs.\
  • Prepares recognition events and celebrations.
  • Fosters a positive culture ensuring all activities/events are inclusive, promoted and delivered.
  • Chairs the College’s Staff Engagement Committee.
  • Organizes employee special events including annual holiday party.
  • Participates in the development of an annual recognition budget for staff and volunteers.
  • Manages annual recognition budget for staff and volunteers.

 

4. Health and Safety Activities

  • Maintains the College’s Health and Safety Program including the Health and Safety policy and Health and Safety bulletin board.
  • Leads the process for reporting and investigating any safety concerns and evaluate effectiveness of processes based on lessons learned.
  • Researches and identifies industry standards for benchmarking key safety metrics.
  • Provides reports and support to the Health and Safety Committee.
  • Promotes safety practices and a safety culture by developing a safety communication and training.
  • Manages the development and delivery of return-to-work plans

 

5. Administrative Activities

  • Manages the bi-weekly payroll to ensure the payment of all College personnel (staff and volunteers) as applicable.
  • Manages the enrollment of new hires into benefit entitlements as applicable.
  • Liaises with service providers to ensure the College’s payroll and benefit program are current and meet the needs of the organization.
  • Promotes a positive and supportive work culture through the development of various metrics focusing on elements of Equity, Diversity,Inclusion and Belonging, staff and volunteer engagement and health and wellness.
  • Responds to internal and external HR related inquiries.
  • Developes new and reviews and updates existing HR policies for compliance with applicable laws, regulations and operating procedures.
  • Drafts letters, emails, surveys, reports and other correspondence.
  • Manages employee and volunteer records in accordance with Records Management policy and procedures.

Qualifications

To perform the duties successfully, the incumbent will have:

  • Education/Experience: Minimum of five years related experience and/or education; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members. Ability to write presentations and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Math Ability: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must know word processing software, spreadsheet software, internet software, and contact management systems.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources or Business related field.
  • CHRP/CHRL accreditation preferred.

Terms and Working Conditions

The following terms and working conditions apply to this position:

  •  This is a full-time permanent position with the College;
  • The position is based on a 35-hour work week, Monday to Friday;
  • Salary will be based on the experience, skills and qualifications of the incumbent within a range of $76,000 – $100,000 per year.
