Changing Perspectives on Record Keeping

In many previous Regulatory Education Program (REP) sessions, patient records have been identified as a critical component to reducing risk to patients and to practitioners. The importance of maintaining and securing patient records cannot be understated.

The August session of the Regulatory Education Program aims to further solidify the perspective for registrants – that maintaining records is a high priority item and not an afterthought. In addition to considering the regulatory requirements for maintaining good patient records, this session will draw upon how record keeping has been highlighted in so many other REP sessions including: Sexual abuse, Telepractice, consent, scope of practice, mandatory reporting, complaints and delegation.

You will learn about the diverse elements of the patient record, including appointment records, financial records, patient charts, electronic records vs. manual records, requirements for patient records as set out in the Standard of Practice, and much more.
