Mandatory Reporting is one of the ways in which the College achieves its mandate of protecting the public.  As a naturopath, you have a legal obligation under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 to report certain information to the College so that any incidents of possible professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity on the part of its Registrants can be appropriately investigated and addressed.

In this ICW session, we aim to provide answers to the why, how, and what happens when it comes to self-reporting to the College and other mandatory reporting requirements.

PANEL MEMBERS

Dr. Mary-Ellen McKenna, ND (Ret.) Manager, Quality Assurance and Inspection

Dr. Mary-Ellen McKenna, ND (Retired) serves as the College’s Manager of Professional Practice, provides guidance to Registrants, stakeholders and the public on the regulations and standards of the profession and oversees the Inspection Program and the Peer and Practice Program. Prior to working with the College, Mary-Ellen served on the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy – Naturopathy and the Transitional Council of the College of Naturopaths of Ontario.

Mary-Ellen graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) in 1994. As a naturopath, she has worked in her own clinic, taught at the CCNM and supervised fourth- year interns in clinic. Before her naturopathic career, Mary-Ellen received a B.Sc. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Western Ontario and worked in the pharmaceutical industry.

Jeremy Quesnelle, Deputy CEO, Regulation

Jeremy Quesnelle is currently the Deputy CEO, Regulation of the College. Jeremy began his work with the College in 2011, 4 years prior to the proclamation of the Naturopathy Act, 2007. During that time Jeremy’s focus was on regulation, standard, policy, and program development in the areas of Quality Assurance, Complaints, Discipline, Inspections, Patient Relations and Controlled Acts. Since proclamation of the Naturopathy Act, 2007 in 2015 Jeremy has overseen the College’s professional practice and professional conduct departments as well as supporting the CEO in the day-to day-operations and governance of the College.

Jeremy has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Archaeology and Classical Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University, in Waterloo Ontario.  How he got into health regulation is a long story.  When not working Jeremy can be found cooking, practicing jiu jitsu or chasing around his two young sons.

Erica Laugalys, Director, Registration and Examinations

Erica Laugalys is the Director of Registration and Examinations and has just recently celebrated 10 years with the College. Erica has served with many Council members supporting their work on several committees, including the Registration Committee and Exam Appeals Committee. She has been vital to the development and implementation of the College’s Clinical Sciences, Biomedical and Clinical (Practical) Examinations, not to mention the Prescribing & Therapeutics and IVIT exams. In addition to her Council and Committee work, Erica has interacted with countless volunteers who have served as examiners, invigilators, and item writers.

Erica has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Waterloo. Prior to her work with the College, she worked in Registration and Examinations for the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy-Naturopathy. In her free time, she likes to travel.
