Mask Mandate Expiring June 11, 2022
Posted On: June 10, 2022
The current masking mandate requiring masks to be worn in health care settings is set to expire on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
If the mask mandate is lifted on June 11, 2022 as anticipated, NDs and patients will no longer be required to wear surgical/procedural masks during patient visits. It is however, anticipated that some NDs and patients may choose to continue wearing a mask. NDs should continue to use a patient-centred approach by communicating masking preferences to the patient prior to the appointment and wearing a mask if requested by the patient.
If a patient does not want to wear a mask, the ND should be sensitive to that Some patients may have a medical condition and have difficulty tolerating a mask. Discuss why a mask is recommended and provide them with alternatives if appropriate. Consider adaptations to practice, rather than refusal to provide care.
NDs should continue to use professional judgement in considering patient and personal comfort and preferences as public health measures are lifted (e.g., making hand sanitizer available, spacing out seating etc.).
The College also continues to strongly encourage that all NDs be vaccinated against COVID-19.
