DutiesItem writers are responsible for developing psychometrically-sound question items and cases, which adhere to the College blueprints for the Ontario Clinical Sciences and Ontario Biomedical examinations, College style guide, exam study reference guides and item writing guide, and participating in item writer peer review session to revise and strengthen questions prior to review by the Exam Committee (Entry-to-Practise).  
Work VolumeThe examination process anticipates the creation of new questions for both the Ontario Biomedical Examination and the Ontario Clinical Sciences Examination annually. Approximately 140 new items (questions) are required. In addition to writing items, self-directed (unpaid), 2 full-day meetings are expected for each examination.  
CompensationAs set out in the Council’s Per Diem Policy, with an additional small fee paid per approved question item.  
Knowledge baseStrong working knowledge of the scope of practise of naturopathy in Ontario.Strong communication skills, both written and oral.Ability to produce written content within set deadlines.Ability to work independently and collaboratively.Experience in writing items for high stakes examinations is an asset.  
DisqualificationsThe following individuals would be disqualified from being appointed to this role: Individuals employed as an administrative faculty member or instructor at a naturopathic educational program (teaching assistants and clinic supervisors are exempted).Due to potential conflicts of interest, Item Writers/Reviewers should not be involved in the development, maintenance or administration of exam preparatory courses related to the Clinical Sciences exam and Biomedical exam, or with the development of naturopathic examination content for examining boards or similar bodies.
