Top 10 Reasons Why you Should Volunteer with the College!

According to the Home Office in Sioux City, Iowa … actually, Toronto, Ontario, here are the top 10 reasons why you should volunteer with the College.

Number 10 – You can do it from anywhere!

Gone are the days of those long, traffic laden and burdensome trips into downtown Toronto. Most College volunteer opportunities are conducted by video conferencing, letting you do it from home, your office, your clinic, anywhere (well, except your washroom… please).

Number 9 – You’ll get to meet new people and make new friends!

The College has a very diverse group of volunteers and staff, people you may have never met before. Volunteering is a great way to meet these great people and expand your network. By bringing people together, the College has helped to create many new, lifelong friendships.

Number 8 – You’ll learn new skills and ideas!

There is no better way to learn than by being directly involved. Curious about governance? Have a passion for exams? Our volunteers are given extensive training and information to help them learn  and excel in their roles.

Number 7 – You’ll get lots of support!

Not only do our volunteers support one another in their roles, but so too do the staff and Council. Additionally, we’velaunched a new Mentoring Program to match people in new roles with those who have been doing those roles for a while to ease the burden and fear of getting involved in new ways.

Number 6 – You’ll feel better!

Well, at least according to Western Connecticut State University.

Volunteering is associated with several wellbeing outcomes including increasing your self-confidence, self-esteem and life satisfaction.

Number 5 – You’ll get paid!

Ok, so it’s not a lot but it is a bit and these days, every little bit helps. The College pays its committee volunteers $75 for half-day (3 hours or less) and $150 for a full day (3.25 hours up to 7 hours). Program volunteers are paid on based on the activity they are performing.

Number 4 – You’ll help keep the costs of regulation low!

We all know that the costs of the College and its work to regulate the profession is borne almost exclusively by the profession. When you volunteer, you help the College fulfill its mandate without having to hire staff or external consultants to perform these roles. This helps keep our costs down.

Number 3 – You’ll add your voice to the conversation!

Perhaps you’ve been reluctant to volunteer as you don’t see yourself represented amongst those involved with the College or feel that you won’t be welcomed. The only reason you may not see people like you volunteering with us is because we are waiting for you.

Number 2 – You’ll contribute to society!

We’re sure you have heard and read that the role of the College is to serve and protect the public interest. Performing this role in the context of the health care that Ontarians receive from Naturopathic Doctors is rewarding and makes a difference. Few roles people get to play in their lives can be linked directly to benefiting society as a whole.

Volunteering with the College does exactly this.

And, the Number 1 reason you should volunteer with the College is … We are asking you to do it.

Did you know that according to the Salvation Army Canada, the top reason people don’t volunteer is because they have never been asked? Well, we’re asking!

We are asking you Abdullah, Maria, Katherine, Chris, Laura, Rebecca, Yasmin, Heidi, Ruth, Adam, James, Monique, Elyse, Zohra, Natasha, Robert… every Naturopathic Doctor, every member of the public. Add your name to this list because you’ve been asked to volunteer with the College!
