Ontario Biomedical Exam

Applicants for registration to practise naturopathy in Ontario who are not transferring their ND registration from another regulated Canadian jurisdiction, must successfully complete the Ontario Biomedical Exam. This exam tests a candidate’s knowledge of body systems and their interactions, body functions, dysfunctions, and disease state.

This exam will replace the NPLEX I exam on November 15, 2020. Note, however, that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the College will continue to accept proof of successful completion of NPLEX I until May 15, 2021, provided the NPLEX I exam was completed before November 15, 2020.

The Ontario Biomedical Exam is a mix of case-based and stand-alone questions, which test essential foundational medical knowledge of body systems and their interactions, body functions, dysfunctions, and disease states. The April 2020 version of the examination blueprint is available below. It includes the competencies and weighting to be tested in each content area.

An updated study reference guide which provides information on testable content and sample questions will be available summer 2020. An updated handbook outlining the procedural components of this exam (including pre- and post-exam processes such as requesting an accommodation and information about scoring) is below.
